This race marks the day for some racers as the beginning of their racing season, so a lot of new and shiny cars were to be displayed, brand new engines awaiting to be revved up and some new faces getting ready for their first action packed experience of RC Racing.
As I arrived to the track around 8 o'clock AM, you could see a few people already setup and wrenching on their cars getting ready for that first initial taste of what the season was going to offer. Rescue's track caters to a wide variety of racing classes and the most prominent class is the 1/8th scale nitro class, so there is a required time to start the morning practice session. Many are counting down the minutes until that 9 o'clock time to start and as the second hand reaches exactly 9am, the sound and smell of nitro graces the senses, and then the swarm of drivers hit the track for a full hour of practice. "If you want to learn some defense driving, run in the practice session often"
With the drivers meeting over and sign-ups closed, racing then begins and resumes throughout the day and the feeling of opening day then transitions to an easy going feel like I never stopped racing all year long, being consumed in the variety of cool and friendly competition.
As the day comes to a close, mostly everyone seems to have had a great time, and those who didn't will most likely come back for another go to find that RC bliss.
Thanks to the Rescue Staff for a great day and a well prepared and maintained track.
Video will be posted throughout the week.
